The art of writing and the dawn of information technology

Earlier in the centuries, writing was a skill admired and full of devoted followers. Editors and publishers called the shots and made or rejected writers.

In the current information era, the concept has changed when writers, especially new aspiring writers, get to learn not only writing as an art, but also leverage the skill with editing, publishing, and marketing.

With the advent of online marketing giants like Amazon.com, the relevance of publishers has changed with the writers ability and option to self-publish.

Technology and the hand of God

The first thing that comes to our minds when talking about technology is the information technology.

In the 1980s, when the Internet and computers began taking over the economy I was devastated by it’s effect on the corporation I was working for. I was comfortable with my job as stenographer. There were about twelve of us in the department pool. But as soon as the computer and Internet took over the entire pool was dismantled. We were all delegated to different departments and I was afraid that my job was at stake! I thought the devil was taking over the world. The administration got lean and mean and new rules were introduced that sounded alien and threatening. All because of the computer.

Soon things went from bad to worse. The workload became heavier, and working overtime became the norm. However, unknown to me at that time, the administration was not slack at their end of the bargain. Our salaries sky-rocketed as a direct result of working overtime. We began getting good pay cheques.

New development

Fast forward some four decades later, we are now facing Artificial Intelligence, ChatGPT, and Machine Learning. And this isn’t the end. More are coming in the form of eye glasses with intelligent features as Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook founder and leader has prophesied.

Are you bewildered? I can only hear the Lord Jesus whispering, ‘Where is your faith?’

God’s sovereignty in a fast moving world

In the Book of Daniel chapter four, God gives Daniel the revelation of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream about the huge magnificent tree. It also reveals how the tree is cut down and relates the episode to King Nebuchadnezzar and his forthcoming madness for seven years, and the restoration of his kingdom to him.

Importance of keeping an open mind

Technologies are here to stay. It is not possible to stop or forestall them. It is necessary to learn them as they evolve. In the good old days, the newspapers and comics were favorite time-passing features. Now it is fiddling with smartphone and laptops.

Once, while I was traveling by train, I was lost trying to figure out why I was unable to log into my cell phone. A young man sitting opposite me offered help and accomplished it in no time.

Faith-focused articles

The art of communication and learning has evolved and changed with the development of information technology. We are nearing the skies and the horizon in communication and learning.

It is important and essential to simultaneously bear in mind God’s sovereignty in the changing era of communication. It is important not to be overwhelmed by the changes, but thank God for his hand in every new concept and invention. And pass them on to the next generation.
