Sharon Mumper, founder and president of MTI, was awarded the Terry White Lifetime Achievement Award.

(COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado)—Magazine Training International’s (MTI) Founder and President, Sharon Mumper, received the Terry White Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Evangelical Press Association (EPA) for her exceptional contribution to the field of Christian journalism. The award was presented on April 14, 2023 at the annual convention of EPA.

The Terry White Lifetime Achievement Award is a brand new award, established this year. Mumper and writer and author Joyce K. Ellis are the two recipients of the inaugural awards.

Mumper founded MTI in Eastern Europe in 1989, expanding to the former Soviet Union in 1994, to Asia in 2000, and to Africa in 2018. She has worked in the field of publishing since 1967, serving as a writer, editor, and associate publisher with newspaper, magazine, and book publishers. Mumper taught college journalism, and taught and served as a consultant to publishers in the U.S.A., Europe, and Asia before founding MTI. She holds a B.J. from the University of Missouri and an M.A. from Wheaton College Graduate School.

Through Mumper’s ministry in MTI, thousands of Christian magazine staff members from some 100 countries have participated in the training program, attending onsite conferences in dozens of countries or taking part in more than 80 online courses and workshops, or downloading e-books, viewing DVD courses and training videos, course manuals, textbooks, and other published materials.

“Sharon Mumper is the epitome of what one would expect in a candidate for a lifetime achievement award,” said Lamar Keener, executive director of EPA. “Her faithful and committed service to training Christian journalists in less-resourced countries for more than three decades is beyond exemplary. I know of no one more deserving of this honor.”
