Why do we write about faith? For many of us, it’s not just a creative outlet—it’s a calling. Spiritual writing goes beyond words. It’s about reaching hearts, offering hope, and reflecting God’s truth.

During a recent workshop on writing by Marlene Legaspi-Munar, the message was clear: “We write not just to express ourselves, but to minister to others.”

Here’s why spiritual writing is worth doing:

  1. It grows your own faith.
Writing about spiritual matters forces you to slow down, reflect, and listen to God. You may begin with the intention of helping others, but often, the process deepens your own relationship with God. It becomes a way to process, pray, and praise.
  2. It meets people in their pain.
You never know who is reading. A quiet, desperate heart may be waiting for the exact words God will give you. Your blog post, devotional, or article might be the answer to someone’s prayer. Through your vulnerability, they may find comfort, truth, and healing.
  3. It builds God’s Kingdom.
When you share your testimony or insights, you are joining in God’s work of transformation. Your words can teach, comfort, and invite others into deeper faith. They may spark curiosity, encourage repentance, or lead someone to open their Bible again.

The best part? You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to be willing.

Spiritual writing isn’t about performance. It’s about presence. Make yourself available, and let God use your words. Over time, you may be surprised at how your writing not only touches others but transforms your own life too.
