Magazine Training International (MTI) will begin a search for a new executive director this month. President and founder Sharon Mumper plans to retire by August 1, 2025. This leadership transition marks the end of an era for MTI and the start of a new chapter as MTI provides training and resources to a new generation of Christians in magazine publishing around the world.
MTI was founded in 1989 to provide training to Eastern Europe’s fledgling Christian publishers as the region emerged from the shackles of communism. Shortly afterwards, MTI expanded its reach into the countries of the former Soviet Union and then Asia, Africa, and beyond. The ministry began with on-site conferences and expanded to published materials, a resource-rich website, DVD courses, and beginning in 2013, online training. Over the years, thousands of Christians from more than 100 countries have taken advantage of MTI training, gaining the skills needed to produce high-quality publications.
“I have met so many wonderful, brave Christians in dozens of countries who have responded to the call of God to publish Christian magazines in some of the most difficult circumstances you can imagine,” says Mumper. “It has been an amazing privilege to get to know and work with these visionary Christian leaders.”
The Board of Directors has formed a hiring committee to identify and select a highly qualified individual to succeed Mumper. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to MTI’s mission and a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities that face Christian magazine publishers today. The responsibilities of the new executive director include visionary leadership, program strategy and delivery, donor relations development, and financial oversight.
“The board of Magazine Training International celebrates Sharon Mumper’s role in establishing the ministry 35 years ago, and in continuing to faithfully fulfill the mission,” says Carla Foote, MTI Board of Directors chair. “We are committed to the future of the organization, so that the ministry can continue to grow and thrive, to meet the needs of the current and next generation of Christian publishers, so they can reach people for Christ.”
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications at https://magazinetraining.com/hiring. A detailed job description and application information are available for download on the site. Applications will be accepted beginning September 10 and will be considered on a rolling basis.
