Well-designed typography is the secret weapon of publications on a shoe-string budget. Learn how to apply basic typography principles to communicate more effectively and draw busy readers to your page. This course will not only build your skills and inspire creative exploration; it will also grow your appreciation for the artistry of beautiful letterforms. Great typography is within your grasp! During this four-week course\, award-winning designer Anne Elhajoui will provide numerous examples and live demonstrations to guide you on your journey to unleash the power of type in your magazine. You will better grasp the purposes of typography\, understand the key design principles of type and letter spacing\, learn to avoid common mistakes\, and discover methods to fine-tune your design. Weekly assignments will allow you to apply the principles to your magazine in a meaningful way. \nContributing sponsor\n \n  \n  \n  \n  \nAnne ElhajouiTrainerAward-winning designer Anne Elhajoui is the senior graphic designer of Southeastern Guide Dogs in Sarasota\, Florida\, and is the art director of their magazine\, Life Unleashed. She is also the former art director of Discipleship Journal\, the Navigators’ Disciple!\, and Venice magazine\, a lifestyle magazine of Venice\, Florida. She runs her own design business\, AEIOU Design\, where she designs logos\, brochures\, ads\, greeting cards\, menus\, and books. Anne earned an M.S. in design from Pratt Institute in New York City\, and has taught online and in-person with MTI in Bulgaria\, Croatia\, India\, Kenya\, and Côte d’Ivoire.ScheduleSystem requirementsRegistration and feesSchedule\nThe schedule is flexible in order to meet the needs of each student. The only scheduled events are the weekly one-hour live sessions. If you are unable to attend live\, you may watch a recording\, which is available online anytime. Exact dates and times for the sessions is to be determined. \nWeekly requirements\nBackground reading: TBDLive session: Attend a one-hour online live session with the instructor. All sessions are recorded. The recordings are available 24/7 within a few hours of the live event.Forum discussion: Participate in the class forum by making comments and asking questions throughout the week.Homework assignment: Complete and return the homework assignment by Friday each week. \nTime required to complete coursework: Approximately five hours each week \nSystem requirements\nMTI website\nClass instructions and forums are available via this website in the MTIOnline free membership section.
