Dr. Tamara Welter is associate professor and chair of the Department of Media, Journalism, and Public Relations at Biola University. In this role, she also mentors the students publishing The Point, Biola’s award-winning student magazine. Before joining Biola, Tamara served as director of marketing for a computer and networking company where among other duties she oversaw publication creation. She also led efforts to develop a self-sustaining visual media program to train Haitian students to tell the stories of Haiti as only they can. An avid traveler and scholar, Tamara’s dissertation and continued research explores the power of visual language in cross-cultural encounters, and has led her to Mexico, Haiti, The Dominican Republic, and Indonesia. She also taught a magazine design course with Magazine Training International in Kenya in 2018.
