Most magazines send more than one bill, if the subscriber does not pay immediately. Magazines normally compare the cost of sending bills with the result of each mailing in order to determine how many mailings (called “efforts”) to send. Each effort in a subscription billing series includes a letter with detachable renewal order form, outer envelope, and reply envelope. Notice the change in the words used in the letter and on the envelope as the series progresses.
